Starting from Camp Wishard (east of NGCS) four of us went around Cabezon Peak and back for around 50 miles in four hours, with a plan to then round White Mesa. However, the strong winds and the knowledge of cold beer at camp set off a rebellion (surprise) and the White Mesa portion was surrendered to the winds and brew. It was great fun to see all the happy people out on the trails. Way Fun. See ya later.
Thanks.
Great day cut short by a crappy knee! Thanks to Lenny and all the other folks that pitched in.
Summary:
Roll out at a good clip. Follow Jeff’s washboard line to many times on Encino (figured I would learn but I never did). Jeff, John, me and a few others hit the compressor and then it went south. Jeff hooks me with H20 as we got to the compressor before the sag. Start out towards White Mesa and I remember I forgot to put fuel in the h20 so I stop and lose contact. Solo trolling around White Mesa (so glad I taped the trail sequence on my top tube) digging the ride. Hook up with Mitch and knee goes south on the hike back up to the Spine (?). Decide to call it a day and roll back before the wind really whips up and I become a liability. Foolishly decided to bolt back to Colorado Springs instead of hanging as the CO weather look suspect on Sunday. Just added one more ride that I have to complete to the long list.
Thanks again to Lenny, the sag and everyone else…especially the cookies on the roll back from White Mesa. See you in Cochiti.
[…] In the end, it looks like 61 people started, with 12 doing the full 123 miles. There were 5 singlespeeders total (4 did the full 123) and 2 tandems (one of which did the white mesa loop, insane!). The results are up here. […]
Since you have trackbacks turned on, I guess I don’t need to say that my report is above (although if you clicked it earlier, it wasn’t quite done yet).
Nice work to everyone who came out, and thanks again Lenny. Nice work!
What a fun day! Came out to do a long training ride and that it was. It was great to see everyone. Thanks to Lenny for organizing and Andrew for sag. See you at Cochiti.
