Cochiti 100
*awaiting comilation of results from riders. please report your finish times and lap/route conditions via the comment section here or the NMES email list.
John Stevens set the course record at a time of 11:38 and Matt Turgeon was the only other finisher with a time of 12:02. Over 60 people started out and most everyone completed Loop 1 and quite a few others completed Loop 2. Loop 3 prooved to be the elusive route as a lot of riders were quite spent by the time the toughest loop came up. We prooved by far that the Cochiti 100 is indeed the toughest 100-miler out there, and certainly more challenging than the Durango 100 which has the claim of the toughest 100-miler out there.
The course came out to have nearly ~110-miles of terrain, 76 creek crossings, over 13k of climbing, but the most difficult part to communicate is the tough terrain - loose rocks on pumice/volcanis soil that really slowed down the riders. It’s just something that you have had to experience. Obsidian rocks on the lava ash in this volcanic soil was something not many people can claim to have ridden on. Passing by massive volcanic tent rocks, and amazing switchbacks down to the bottom of Cochiti Canyon defined the epic Loop 2.
Please let us know how your ride turned out…

Great turn out and the weather was excellent with a relatively warm start at 7:00AM to sunny skies all day long. Tons of wildlife were seen by the riders in the early morning including a mountain lion, antelope, coyotes, jack rabbits, cottontails, snakes, and horses and of course free range cows.
