Chris, what are you thinking for changes to the loop? Last year Andy M. and I added Killer Switchbacks to the first loop for a little something extra and we’ll probably do that again this year. Also, when I do this with other folks we’ll often skip the Dome Road and go up the canyon to Carl Shipman and then Mo Town. Way more technical, way more single track. Down side is that the stream crossings are cold early in the AM and the drive train takes a beating early in the ride.

Overnight in Cochitti pueblo or Dixons Orchard?

I’m coming down from Colorado and looking for a place to pitch a tent at the start … or grab a room nearby. Can someone please give me the overview of an unfamiliar place?
Also, what is the start/finish setup – can we leave a tarp’d rest area setup with gear? Beer at the end?

Anyone headed back to SantaFe that evening I could get a ride with?

    Thanks!

Chris – this is from the loop 2 description…seems to contradict to some other info out there.

    5. FR 268/Tr.424 Intersection: Turn right on FR 268 and climb up to the FR 268/FR 286 intersection for several miles. After you struggle up the rough rocky upper section, you will exit the steep valley, and begin the climb on the more traveled section of FR 268.

    6. Climb until you reach the FR 268/FR 286 intersection. The metal structure will be uphill on your left as in Loop 2. Turn left and continue uphill on FR 268.

#6 Question:Turn left and continue uphill on 268 or 286?

    • chris hereford Says:

      Dan,
That intersection is confusing, with the number similarities. You will turn left, uphill, staying on 268.

Chuck – camping only, I believe, around cochiti lake which has campgrounds on the east and west side of the lake. The Pueblo doesn’t have any camping. Alternatives are the natl. forrest up past dixons. I wouldn’t leave anything expensive lying around at the start area.

    Thanks for the info Chris

Went up Dome road 289 to the burn area yesterday, about 6 miles in?, off/on light rain and a moderate amount of flash/bang. Some mud/puddles/mostly wet sand. Kinda cool so be prepared.

Could be some good camping on the FS land up Dome road 289 about 3 miles

Is anyone heading out from Albuqueruqe on Saturday morning early who could give a ride? I live down between the University and the Airport but would ride out to wherever you want.

Just a reminder to please be courteous and keep the noise to a minimum as you roll in at dark thirty. The residents of at the orchard have been working hard all week.

Take care also, not to park in front of gates or other access areas.

    Good luck and ride hard!

Thanks to all who came out for the 09 C100. We had the best weather for the three years I’ve been there. The dirt was that perfect stage just before being called mud. Congrats to all for completing Loop 1 and other loops.
Congrats to Brent for holding on to that Power Bar while crashing! Awesome handling!

  10. Brent Bonwell Says:

Thanks and Congrats to Chris for organizing and becoming only the 3rd rider to complete the full Cochiti 100!!!!!

Yes, food was becoming very important at that stage, but maybe if I was a better bike handler I wouldn’t have crashed in the fist place!

(Lenny – props to you for coming out and doing laps 2&3 w/Chris)
